We all have comfortable ranges for our current skills. However, when we began we weren't so comfortable with the skills we have now. We had to learn them, build on them and practice. This process does not end for artisans. We are constantly learning and expanding. With that we often find ourselves staying within a certain range for our learning. We sometimes avoid things we find to be too challenging or " too advanced" for us.
Consider this as you think on your next venture to expand your skills. What do you truly feel will add to your current art? What do you consider to be too challenging and how can you potentially learn it in a way that works for you? Do you know a fellow artist who specializes in that skill and would they be willing to help you learn it? We all learned and continue to learn from each other in some manner.
Tutorials, be they paid or otherwise are excellent means to expand your skills. Tutorials come on many forms and those forms suit each artisan differently. Also note that it may take a specific fellow artist to explain or show you a method in a different way for you to understand and apply it. An example would be how Summer and I taught each other things last week.
If a skill or method seems too difficult, keep trying it and looking for a teacher or tutorial that may better help you achieve your learning goals. Always remember to give credit when possible to those you've learned from, even if it seems pointless to you. That acknowledgement means a great deal to those you've learned from and shows the rest of the artistic community that sharing knowledge is a good thing.
Lets get inspired and motivated! Rest well and let those creative vibes flow. Never forget; you are amazing!
